Spring admission faqs

1. Why is there a Spring intake for Management programs only?

We offer a Spring intake for both the International Masters in Management and Masters in Management because it’s the only master’s program which curriculum comprises mandatory courses in both semesters, thus allowing students to start the program without any academic disadvantage.

2. Can I apply to both Masters in Management and International Masters in Management?

No. The program is the same curriculum-wise. The difference between the programs lies on the additional requirements the International Masters requires, i.e. international mobility experience (only for those who completed a Bachelors program in Portugal) and proof of knowledge in a second foreign language at A2 level. If you are eligible to apply for the IMM, you can still do the exchange program.

3. I am not yet eligible to apply for the International Master in Management. Can I transfer during the program once I become eligible?

You can request to change from the regular master program to the International master after you begin your studies at Nova SBE and as soon as you become eligible. You need to submit a request for change of degree before the Work Project semester and pay an administrative transfer fee. You can only transfer once.

4. Will my classes be separate from other students who started earlier?

No. You will follow the same curricular sequence and will have the same opportunities as other students.

5. Does Nova SBE offer bridging courses in January?

No. Bridging courses are only available in August. If you come from a non-business related background and feel you would benefit from these introductory classes, we recommend that you consider applying in the Fall rather than in the Spring intake.

6. I’m interested in applying for an international track but the application form does not allow me to.

International tracks, such as Double Degree and CEMS MIM, aren’t available for the Spring intake due to calendar constraints. However, you can always apply for an exchange program once you begin your studies. Please note, you will be able to apply for the CEMS MIM in February, but you will only be able start the MIM year in September of the following year, leaving a gap semester, during which you can do the international internship.

7. Do I have to pay to enrol?

Yes, you will be requested to pay a non-refundable enrolment fee of €1000.

8. Can I defer my enrollment?

Admitted students can defer for up to one semester without having to re-apply, provided they pay the non-refundable enrolment fee of €1000 by 27 October to guarantee their place and inform the school by 15 December. If you fail this deadline you will need to submit a new application.

9. How do I pay the Tuition Fees?

The tuition fees are charged in identical instalments per semester, except for the first one because the enrolment fee will be deducted from the first instalment. The first instalment of €2 300 will be due on 15 December 2017. The remaining two instalments (€3 300 each) will be due on 15 September 2018 and 15 February 2019.

10. Will there be a Discovery Week event for Spring intake?

No. There will be a welcome session before classes start on January 31, but we recommended that you participate in the Discovery week of the following academic year.

11. When will I graduate?

Students beginning in Spring will defend their final thesis in June 2019. The official graduation ceremony takes place in January each year.

12. Are there any scholarships available for application?

No. Scholarships are only available for the Fall intake, for those who apply in February-May. For more information about our scholarships please go to http://masters.novasbe.unl.pt/masters-programs/masters-in-management/application-fees/fees.

13. Is it true that Nova SBE is moving from Campolide campus?

Yes, our school is moving to its new campus in Carcavelos (circa 20 km from Lisbon) by September 2018. Have look at http://novacampaign.pt/

Step 3 - Decision

Following the application review, the Admissions Committee will make its final decision based on all information available. Selection decisions will be taken in three rounds/periods: Early March, early April and early May (for students applying until end of February, end of March and end of April, respectively). The number of available slots will therefore decrease in each period of analysis.

The decision will be communicated by email in early March, early April and early May (for students applying until end of February, end of March and end of April, respectively). Candidates are responsible for checking their email account for school messages (including the spam or junk folders). In the event of no contact from the school, candidates should email or call the Admissions and Development Office. When accepted candidates do not confirm their commitment to be in the program, these slots will be considered vacant for the next selection round.

Step 4 - Enrollment

Admitted candidates will have to pay a €1 000 non-refundable enrolment fee, to be deducted from the total tuition fee. No exceptions or late payments will be accepted.

Enrolment in the Double Degree and CEMS MIM programs becomes effective after payment of an additional €1 500 non-refundable fee, to be deducted from the total tuition fee.

NB. Admitted students can defer for up to one semester without having to reapply. However, they must pay the enrolment fee to guarantee their place, and inform the school no later than one month prior to the beginning of term. Non-respect of this deadline or an unsuccessful request to defer will require submission of a new application.
